Pupils at Owston Park Primary School in Doncaster are again able to learn about animal welfare and responsibility after a donation from a local petfood store.
Following a break-in at the school in March, during which nearly 20 classroom pets were killed, Jollyes Petfood Superstores invited the children into its Sheffield branch and let them choose brand new equipment including a new fish tank and stand. The Selby store provided new state of the art cages, treats and accessories for the school's chinchillas and Jollyes also provided a new guinea pig, Joe, as a companion to the school's one surviving guinea pig, Toby.
Tom Evans of Jollyes, who handed over the new equipment to the school, said: "We were more than happy to provide a new school pet and equipment to Owston Park. It is important that children learn about pet welfare and the responsibilities involved in taking care of animals and we were glad to be able to help."
Mrs Jane Parkes, who teaches Year 6 pupils at Owston Park said: "The pupils and staff are very grateful to Jollyes for its generous donations. The children were devastated at what happened in the break-in but they are now able to go on learning about caring for their pets."
Jollyes Petfood Superstores supply a wide range of pet feeds and accessories and their experienced in-store staff can give advice on pet wellbeing and nutrition. The Selby store is hosting a special Healthy Pet Day on July 21st as is the Sheffield store on July 28th and Jollyes also has an outlet on Wheatley Hall Road, Doncaster.
