Jollyes Help for Heartbroken Pupils

2 April 2007

After hearing the sad news that their school pets had been killed in a horrific attack, pupils at Owston Park Primary School in Doncaster have been offered some comfort. Jollyes Petfood Superstore is providing the school with some new animal companions.

The appalling attack took place on Monday night when vandals broke into the school and slaughtered nearly 20 classroom pets. Amazingly, one guinea pig, Toby, survived so Jollyes are providing Toby with a friendly companion, Joe.

The school has decided to have some fish as their next pets, so Jollyes' Sheffield and Doncaster stores have organised for the school be provided with a brand new fish tank and stand. The Owston Park pupils have also been invited to the Jollyes store in Sheffield to kit out their new tank with £50 worth of accessories. The Selby branch of Jollyes is also donating new state of the art cages and a variety of treats and accessories for the school's collection of Chinchillas.

Mrs Parkes the year 6 teacher who was responsible for setting up the animal enclosures and caring for the animals with the pupils said: "Our pupils were left devastated after what has happened. It is going to take them a long time to come to terms with the events'. Pupils and staff are very grateful for Jollyes generous donations - it will definitely provide a ray of happiness and comfort."

Andrew Jeffreys, Store Manager at Jollyes in Sheffield said: "When we heard the shocking news of what happened to this school's pets we were only too happy to offer our help. Jollyes believe that classroom pets are very beneficial as they educate children in pet welfare as well as teaching them important lessons in responsibility. We hope our new equipment will help ensure the school can still provide animals for the children to look after."
